Incoming Students: What to Expect
Congratulations! Welcome to the MHA Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We hope that the information and resources provided on this page will answer some of the questions you may have about being a graduate student on our campus!
How to Accept or Decline Admission:
Admitted applicants will then be sent an email notifying them that a decision letter is available. Students will be directed to access the system, asked to create an account, and review their Admission Letter. At the bottom of the letter, admitted applicants are provided with a link where they can provide their final decision – accepting or declining the offer of admission.

Academic Advising & Registering for Classes
New Student Registration will take place early summer! Students who have accepted the offer of admission will receive an email with details from the Assistant Director of the MHA program. Students must attend the New Student Registration event in order to register for courses. Because all students are required to attend, this is where the community building with each cohort begins. We are excited to welcome you!
After their initial New Student Registration event, students will meet with the Assistant Director each subsequent semester to talk about future registration, career goals and professional development. Our program places high value on academic, professional and personal growth.
Housing
There are many living options here at Illinois – one will surely be the right fit for you! Details for on-campus living options, dining and information for students with families can be found on the University Housing website.
Students can certainly self-research and find apartments off-campus as well.
Health & Wellness
All graduate students are required to have health insurance. The University offers a wide variety of resources across campus. A detailed list of medical, dental, vision and wellness resources are provided here.
Transportation & Parking
Champaign-Urbana is readily accessible to visitors by car, plane, train, or bus. A number of interstates, U.S., and state highways serve the motorist. Please visit our Directions to Campus.
To help navigate on campus, students can utilize both the Campus Map and the Campus Parking Map. Students wishing to avoid driving and parking on campus can utilize the many biking paths and accessible bike parking. Additional information is available on the Bike at Illinois website. Bicycle sharing is also possible with the Veoride program on campus.
Many Champaign-Urbana MTD bus routes pass through campus, making transportation to and around campus easy to navigate. Students can use their iCard to ride any MTD bus without paying a fare. A majority of the MHA classes and activities will take place in Huff Hall, by which many bus routes frequently run.
The Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) offers transportation services for qualified students, staff, faculty, and visitors who have temporary or permanent disabilities. See the DRES website for more information.
